C2 Adds Plus

If the latest Citroen supermini, the C2, isn't big enough for the needs of you and your family, perhaps this one will be - it's the C2 Plus.

The firm's version of the Peugeot 1007 will differ from its sibling by having four conventional doors, instead of two sliding ones. Inside, the four-seater features the removable, folding rear chairs found in the standard C2. In a bid to match the practicality of Renault's new Modus, the back seats also slide backwards and forwards, giving owners a choice between improved rear passenger leg, head and shoulder room or increased luggage space in the boot. The Plus will also retain the functional split-opening tailgate of the conventional supermini.

Our picture shows how the model will carry the recently introduced Citroen family look. The headlights resemble those of the C4, and there's a similar curved roofline, while the retractable glass roof panels will be available as an option.A choice of engines similar to that offered in the C2 and C3 will feature. However, the entry-level 1.1-litre is unlikely to be available, as it will struggle to cope with the heavier car. Instead, the 75bhp 1.4 petrol will be the base motor, with a 100bhp 1.6-litre also on offer, mated to Citroen's SensoDrive transmission.

The popular 1.4-litre HDi diesel engine will appear in both 75bhp and 100bhp formats when the C2 Plus appears in Citroen's UK showrooms in 2006.
