TORINO - E' il via di una controversia legale che potrebbe durare a lungo. La Fiat ha ufficialmente annunciato che potrebbe esercitare l'opzione di vendita delle sue attività automobilistiche alla General Motors dal 2 febbraio 2005. Il processo di mediazione avviato da General Motors il 16 dicembre scorso terminerà infatti il primo febbraio 2005. Una scelta questa che provocherà probabilmente il rigetto, da parte del colosso americano di Detroit, dell'accordo stipulato nel 2003 che prevedeva la possibilità per il Lingotto di vendere a partire dal 24 gennaio 2005.
IL COMUNICATO - Fiat ha ribadito le motivazioni per cui ritiene che «la vendita di alcune attività finanziarie di Fiat Auto e la ricapitalizzazione di Fiat Auto Holdings BV non costituiscono violazioni del Master Agreement. Di conseguenza, la "put option" che detiene sul proprio business dell'auto è uno strumento importante per Fiat ed è valido ed esercitabile secondo i termini stabiliti». Il comunicato aggiunge che, «benché la "put option" sia esercitabile a partire dal 24 gennaio 2005, ha deciso di aspettare la conclusione del processo di "mediation". Pertanto, Fiat sarà nella posizione di esercitare la "put option" dal 2 febbraio 2005 fino al 24 luglio 2010». Per quanto riguarda l'alleanza industriale tra General Motors e Fiat, secondo la nota, le parti continuano a lavorare per ottimizzare le loro intese, nell'interesse di entrambi. L'evoluzione dei rapporti con Gm non si prevede abbiano influenze negative sui target annunciati per il 2005, 2006 e 2007, dice l'amministratore delegato della Fiat, Sergio Marchionne. Che aggiunge: non è prevista la chiusura di stabilimenti italiani.

aggiungo la notizia (riportta ansa) che Mirafiori chiude in cig una settimana,Cassino (stilo) due settimana, Termini pure.
La metto qui che mi sembra più appropriata.

P.s. ma a Mirafiori dove producono Idea/Musa non dovrebbero avere tanto lavoro su questi due modelli?? non capisco nell'articolo se bloccano pure l'assemblaggio.

Fiat has been locked in a battle with GM for more than 12 months over a put option that was included in the pact. This allows Fiat group to hand over to GM its struggling automotive operations anytime between today (January 24) and July 24, 2010, if it cannot turn them around.

Annoyed that GM appears to be winning the publicity battle over the two companies? dispute, Fiat last month posted details of the 2000 agreement on its website.

For GM, the deal was negotiated by then-Chairman Jack Smith and CEO Rick Wagoner. They wanted to block a $12 billion offer from DaimlerChrysler to buy Fiat Auto, as part of a D/C plan to unseat GM as the world?s biggest automaker.

Fiat accepted GM?s offer of a strategic alliance. At the Detroit auto show this month, Fiat group CEO Sergio Marchionne said when the alliance was signed in 2000, both sides believed an eventual merger of Fiat?s automotive business with GM was likely.

Without Fiat Auto, the Fiat group would be a very profitable industrial conglomerate with less debt and about E6 billion in new cash.

For GM, the prospect of owning Fiat Auto is financially less appealing. The automaker has already written off its entire $2.4 billion investment in Fiat Auto. It has claimed the put option is no longer valid because of actions taken by Fiat.

GM has plenty of other problems in Europe without taking on Fiat Auto. Currently GM is carrying out a major restructuring of its loss-making European operations.
