Eccoci ad uno degli appuntamenti di maggior spicco del WRC. il MilleLaghi, ora rally di Finlandia o per motivi di sponsor "Neste OIl Rally".
Dopo una miriade di corse a partire in testa non è Loeb ma Hirvonen che nell'ultimo Rally iridato, Polonia, ha scavalcato nella generale il campione mondiale in carica.
La gara comincerà già domani (giovedì 30/07) sera con una super speciale a Killeri. Venerdì 31 luglio gli equipaggi affronteranno due serie di quattro speciali e un nuovo passaggio sui 2 km di Killeri. Nella prima giornata di corsa saranno percorsi 519,45 km dei quali 130,84 cronometrati.
Sabato ci saranno due serie di tre speciali identiche e una terza serie di tre prove. Le vetture lasceranno il parco chiuso alle 6h30 per affrontare 644,89 km di cui 166,87 contro il cronometro.
Domenica, la terza ed ultima tappa comprende due serie di due speciali con due passaggi su Myhinpää e due nuove speciali. L'ultima tappa è lunga 285,27 km dei quali solo 47,44 cronometrati.

In finlandia la 1° tappa ha visto il dominio dei 2 capiclassifica del mondiale, Hirvonen e Loeb.
Delle 10 speciali disputate 6 sono andate al francese e 4 al pilota di casa che però è al comando della classifica generale al termine della tappa.
Ancora tutti in gara i migliori se si fa eccezione per Peter Solberg che ha forato 2 gomme ed è uscito rovinosamente di strada ad inizio rally.
Forse abbiamo trovato lo sport adatto per Raikkonen che è 17° dell'assoluta con una macchina si ufficiale Abarth (ma pare con il vecchio cambio Sadev) e se la sta giocando con Alen (compagno di squadra e rallysta di professione).

Kimi Raikkonen continues to impress

Formula 1 star Kimi Raikkonen continued his successful World Rally Championship debut in Finland this afternoon, ending SS9, the last forest stage of the day, in 17th place overall and fourth in his class.

After showing an encouraging pace this morning, as he familiarised himself with the day's loop of four stages, Raikkonen felt confident enough to increase his speed on the afternoon repeat.

On the last forest stage of the day, the 13km Palsankyla (SS9), the Finn was faster than rising star Anton Alen - who is also driving a Tommi Makinen Racing-run Abarth Grand Punto S2000. Raikkonen's time on SS9 was only 3.9sec slower than that of Skoda S2000 driver Juho Hanninen, who won the P-WRC class of Rally Finland last year.

Before tackling the day closing Super Special, Raikkonen said he was enjoying his rally so far. "We are quick second time through and the car is performing really well. The notes are the biggest challenge in this rally because you must have total faith in them. I am pleased with my performance,” he said
