Subaru has confirmed that the development of the world?s first horizontally opposed diesel engine, the Subaru Boxer Turbo Diesel, is almost complete.

Announced today at the Paris International Motor Show the new engine, developed by Fuji Heavy Industries in Japan, will be a timely addition to the award-winning Subaru line-up.

Another example of Subaru?s focus on advanced technology, the Subaru Boxer Turbo Diesel engine maintains the excellent balance of Subaru?s trademark horizontally opposed engine, which has been perfected over the past 34 years.

?The superb rotational balance of the horizontally-opposed engine allows low vibration because the pistons counteract each other to cancel it out,? Subaru Europe President Hiroyuki Ikeda said.

?Moreover, with its firmly supported crankshaft, the crankcase construction is strong enough to resist huge combustion pressure. The horizontally opposed engine?s character is proving an excellent match for a diesel engine.

?Also, the adoption of a thin journal for the crankshaft and turbo charger placed under the cylinder block enhances all the advantages of the Boxer Engine, which are low centre of gravity, low vibration, high rigidity and compactness.

?This delivers diesel?s powerful torque from the engine to the wheels, and increases traction, making the Subaru Boxer Turbo Diesel yet another achievement of Subaru?s advanced technology.

?Last but not least, the Subaru Boxer Turbo Diesel boasts lower CO2 emissions in consideration of the environment,? Mr. Ikeda said.

The Subaru Boxer Turbo Diesel engine will be unveiled at next year?s Geneva Motor Show.

Si sa qualcosa su potenza, cilindrata?

Sarà messo con la TI sulla nuova compatta?

speravo rimanesse l'ultima casa a produrre berline senza nafta in listino...

E' dai tempi dei romani che gli idealisti puri fanno la fame.......

ma su potenza e cavalleria non si sa ancora nulla...e penso che eccetto su R1, R2 e Justy sarà montato su tutta la gamma,ovviamente saranno tutte TI come la filosofia delle stelle delle pleadi vuole.
Aspettiamo il 2007..per ora l'ultima novità è il nuovo motore 1.5R boxer  da 106 cavalli montato sull'impreza My 07

Quello ce lo potevano anche risparmiare....

wagon, imbarazzanti i tempi con l'automatico...

dai per uno che abita in montagna ha bisogno si una TI seria a quel prezzo non c'è molto...

Si, ma col 1,5 ce la fa a salire con tutto l'ambaradan dietro?

A poco più prendi il 16/Sx4 che è più leggero e funziona egregiamente bene lo stesso...

andrai su con le ridotte per la gioia dei consumi...sinceramente il 2.0 credo sia la scelta più adatta, trovo sia un motore eccezionale..

Ecco spianata la strada alla Porsche 911 TDI 

si ma cosa ne pensate della soluzione boxer/diesel.

Imho mi sembra più una soluzione commerciale che tecnica valida.
