Tenete presente che Coultard ha vinto a Montecarlo l'anno scorso grazie ad una "riparazione" fatta in corsa tramite la telemetria bidirezionale ....

Riparazione di che tipo? Avevo sentito anche io sta cosa ma non ho approfondito.Ne sai di più?

Vado a memoria quindi quanto scrivo può non essere esatto al 100%. Mi pare di ricordare che aveva un trafilalaggio d'olio da un serbatoio. L'olio andava a finire sul motore e c'era rischio di incendio. Hanno risolto il problema trasferendo l'olio da un serbatoi ad un altro via telemetria .....

Pero'.... quasi fantascienza

David Coulthard/McLaren fans watched with baited breath during last weekend's Monaco Grand Prix as puffs of smoke came from the back of David Coulthard's McLaren. The Scot was in the lead of the race after taking the lead from Juan Pablo Montoya at the start, however many believed the Scot's time in the limelight was short-lived.

Thankfully for the Woking outfit, the smoke disappeared as mysteriously as it had arrived and David went on to win his first race in over twelve months. But what was the problem that almost lost him a superb victory?

According to Mario Ilien, head of Ilmor Company that builds the Mercedes engines, the MP4-17 was suffering a problem with the oil transfer system causing oil an overflow. However, thanks to all the new telemetry the team were able to fix the problem from the pits, leaving Coulthard to continue his strong run to the chequered flag.

"Before the puff of smoke came we actually knew that we had a problem so the smoke wasn't ringing alarm bells," Ron Dennis explained. "It was data and we were particularly proud at being able to rectify the problem through our telemetry system. I know that not many people get turned on by technology but when you've got it and you use it well, it's a wonderful tool and it's tremendously satisfying to actually be able to talk to the car and influence its performance and rectify that sort of problem."
